About me

  • Varenka couchHola! My name is Varenka

    My intention is to share my love for yoga with adults and children, promote literacy and provide useful info and tips to create a better quality of life for parents, educators, children and their families!

    I was born and raised in Mexico City and moved to Canada when I was 24. I’ve lived in the Kootenays and currently live in Nanaimo, beautiful British Columbia.

    I have an educational background in Clinical Psychology and Early Childhood Care and Education. I am a practicing student of life and I am always looking for opportunities to learn, to generate ideas and to engage in critical thinking.

    I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOGA! Although, I don’t think words are enough to explain it. After years of therapy and hard workouts at the gym, with acceptable but mediocre results, yoga really clicked for me and it has helped me in so many different ways. I hope to spark curiosity towards yoga for people that don’t know much about it, or that have misconceptions about it. I hope after you follow my posts, you will be infused with this love and enthusiasm for yoga. Who knows, maybe this yoga thing IS for YOU!

    I received my teacher training through the Saltspring Centre of Yoga as well as my Prenatal Yoga Teacher certification. I have always been drawn to work and play with children and I got certified through Rainbow Kids Yoga to share yoga with children and their families. These classes are THE MOST FUN and heart centered yoga classes I have the opportunity to be part of. I have over 12 years of experience working with  children all ages in a wide variety of settings.

    I am a Registered Yoga Teacher through the Canadian Yoga Alliance and I am currently training to be a Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga Teacher. Healing my body through injuries has taught me how to keep a yoga practice even when I have limited mobility and I can’t wait to share this possibility with people that find themselves in this situation.

    On my free time, I share my life with my partner Mike, we play Acroyoga, enjoy the outdoors, hike, slackline, canoe in the ocean, cook all sorts of mexican, japanese and other delicious foods! I like to keep busy, read, knit and there are still many more things I want to do and learn and I will share this journey with you.
